Tips to boost your interview skills
Interviews are a part of life and one has to be extra attentive while dealing with them. You need to possess certain skills to crack the interviews. Here are few tips to boost your interview skills:
Improve on Nonverbal Communication
Communication needn’t be verbal all the times. You are judged by your body language, your gestures, and your tone of speech. Nonverbal communication has a role to play while appearing for an interview. Fidgeting with hair is a sign of nervousness. Sweating shows that you are stressed. If you cannot stand still, it shows you are nervous. Thus, avoid all these mistakes while you appear for an interview.
Most of the times we are so excited that we do not wait for the other person to finish. We jump midway and answer as though we were just made to answer that question. Hold on! Allow the other person to complete his sentence. Speak only if it is required and answer only when you are asked to.
Dress for the Occasion
You might be a subject matter expert, but if you are poorly dressed, you tend to make a negative impression at the first sight. You need to wear formals that fit you right. Do not be loud with colors. Accessorize as required. Comb your hair and tie them if required. And yes, be careful with your body odour.
Choices of words
You need to be choosy with your words. Avoid using jargons or slangs. Your language has to be classy and you must be in professional tone. Remember, you are talking to industry professionals and not your neighbors. Avoid using words like bro, dude, buddy, yup and so on.
You are not an answering machine. If you have some questions pertaining to the company or job profile, be vocal about it. Do not ask questions just for the sake of doing it. And do not try to test the intelligence of the interviewer. You might invite trouble if you do so.
Don’t Appear Desperate
Are you desperately hunting for a job? Yes, could be! But, you do not have to show it to the panel. Be cool and calm and present yourself in a dignified manner. You will be intimated once the results are declared or you can call them up and check it out.
These are some of the tips to improve your interview skills. Do try them out!
